We are officially halfway through Term 2 and what a fun and busy few weeks of learning it has been in Foundation! Our students have continued to amaze us with their growing confidence and enthusiasm for learning. They have been building their knowledge of letter sounds and using their letter formation skills to write words independently.
Students have loved exploring the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar through a range of literacy and creative activities. In Mathematics, we have been investigating length, capacity and mass through hands-on learning experiences, measuring, comparing and exploring the world around us. We have also been learning about how to care for our learning environments and working together to keep our classroom spaces safe, tidy and welcoming.
Learning at home could look like:
Reading together each night — an adult reading first and then encouraging your child to repeat or join in, while talking about the pictures and story.
Counting groups of objects at home or helping during cooking by using scales and reading numbers together.
Encouraging children to help care for their home environment through simple routines and responsibilities.
We are so proud of the wonderful learning and growth we are seeing each day!

Last week, our Grade 5/6’s swapped their usual classroom lessons for a jam packed 3 days at the Billabong Ranch in Echuca. From testing their aim at archery to riding camels, feeding farm animals and gliding across the water on paddleboats, each day was packed with excitement. Students also tackled obstacle and low ropes courses and tried their hand at backflips on the bungee trampoline, building their teamwork and resilience skills along the way! The team at Billabong Ranch were blown away by the 5/6’s positive attitude towards giving each activity a go. The nights were stacked with unforgettable moments, including a mesmerising fire-throwing performance and an energetic student-led talent show which showcased dance performances, singing, poetry and even close-up magic! A massive thank you to Ms. Cameron and Ms. Lindorff for organising the camp and ensuring every student had a fun, safe, and memorable three days!
McKillop College’s Werribee campus welcomed our Grade 5 students for a special tour and a front-row seat to their student-led production of SpongeBob: The Musical! Their energetic performance showcased the incredible talents of McKillop’s senior students, leaving the Grade 5’s inspired and excited to be starting their secondary school journey in the coming years. The students represented our school beautifully, touring a wonderful campus and even having the chance to chat with peers from other local primary schools.

Over half-way through the term already, how it’s flown…
Our Year 5/6 students had an amazing time at Billabong Ranch in Echuca last week. Across the three days, students challenged themselves, tried new things and made plenty of memories. Highlights included camel rides, peddle boating, orienteering, night walks, roasting marshmallows around the campfire and watching an impressive fire show. It was great to see students stepping outside their comfort zones, supporting one another and embracing every activity with enthusiasm. While there were definitely a few tired faces by the end of camp, many students seemed determined to stay up as late as possible each night. Unsurprisingly, the quietest part of the trip was the bus ride home! Huge shoutout to Ms. Cameron and Ms. Lindorff who organised the camp and made sure everyone had a fun, safe and enjoyable 3 days.
The Winter Gala is fast approaching in Week 8, with our teams busy refining their skills in preparation for competing against schools from across the region. If your child is attending, please ensure consent has been provided and payment has been made via Compass as soon as possible. We are currently finalising team lists and transport arrangements, and receiving permissions promptly will help us ensure the day runs smoothly. We look forward to seeing our students proudly represent Riverwalk Primary School at this exciting event.
Also a huge congratulations to Ayla in 6E for placing first in her 12/13 age group race at Division Cross Country!

We are now halfway through Term 2, and it has been another busy and productive few weeks across Riverwalk Primary School.
Our teaching staff recently participated in their third professional learning session focused on Explicit Teaching. Alongside this work, our leadership team has continued to conduct learning walks across the school to observe the impact of these practices in classrooms and support consistency in teaching and learning.
As part of Education Week, we also shared a snapshot of what English lessons look like at Riverwalk Primary School through a video shared with our community on Facebook. It was wonderful to showcase the strong student engagement and learning experiences taking place across the school.
Over the past month, students and staff have continued to participate in a range of opportunities that strengthen learning and wellbeing outcomes. Our Year 5/6 students recently attended camp at Billabong Ranch in Echuca — the first time Riverwalk Primary School has attended this camp. Students demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and independence while participating in a range of outdoor and adventure activities. The camp provided valuable opportunities for students to strengthen peer relationships, challenge themselves, and create lasting memories together.
On Friday 15th May, we celebrated Education Support Staff Day, recognising the incredible contribution our ES staff make every day in supporting the learning, wellbeing, and inclusion of all students across our school. We are very grateful for the care and support they provide to our community.
Over the next few weeks, students from Year 4 to 6 at our school will participate in the Attitudes to School Survey. Students will be asked about their thoughts and feelings in relation to their school, their learning, peer relationships, bullying and life in general. Further information will be shared on Compass.
We also look forward to welcoming local MP John Lister to Riverwalk Primary School for a Community Catch Up on Wednesday 11th June at 2:15pm. This will provide families and community members with an opportunity to share ideas, feedback, and any concerns they may have regarding Riverwalk Primary School and our growing community.
Finally, we received some good news following the recent State Budget. Riverwalk PS will receive a share of $6.15million in State Government funding for an adaptive space project. The money will be used to add walls to classroom spaces in our existing blue and green buildings. The upgrades will allow the spaces to be fully enclosed for focused learning or opened to support collaborative and breakout learning opportunities.
Parent payments can be made online via Compass through course confirmations, or in person at the school office/reception. If you have any questions or need support with payment arrangements, please contact the office and we’ll be happy to help.
Uniform
School hats are now available for purchase at the school office for $20, and reading satchels are available for $17. All other uniform items can be purchased from Noone Rushfords in Werribee.
Student Late Arrivals
Students who arrive at school after 9:00am must present at administration before going to their Learning Group. This ensures that their attendance is marked accordingly and they receive a Welcome Pass to provide to their learning group Teacher when they arrive at class.
Early Pick Ups
If you need to pick your child up early from school, please let us know in advance by calling the office on 9742 9700 or sending us an email at riverwalk.ps@education.vic.gov.au
This helps us ensure your child is ready to leave when you arrive and minimises disruptions to learning.
To support a calm and focused learning environment, we will be avoiding PA announcements for early pick ups.
Please note:
Children cannot be called for early pick up during break times:
o 11:00am – 11:30am
o 1:30pm – 2:15pm
If you need to collect your child during these times, please contact the office ahead of time so they can be ready and waiting.
Parents who arrive during break times without letting us know in advance will need to wait until the break is over before their child can be collected, as we are unable to locate children out in the yard.
Student Absences
In order to meet legislative requirements, we must ensure that our attendance data, which is provided daily to the Department of Education and Training, is up-to-date and accurate. We ask all families for the same day notification of student absences via compass. Instructions on how to report your child as absent on compass have been attached to this post. If unsure or unable to submit via Compass please email riverwalkps@education.vic.gov.au or call 9742 9700.
All unexplained absences will automatically receive an SMS notification at 9.45am
daily reminding you to report your child’s absence.
Unexplained Student Absences
All student absences must be logged in Compass. If your child does have absences that are unexplained, they can be seen on your Compass Parent Portal. If you are unsure how to process these on your parent portal, please reach out to administration for assistance.
Road Safety Reminder
As we continue to prioritise the safety of our students and families, we would like to remind everyone to remain mindful of traffic and road safety around the school, particularly during drop-off and pick-up times.
Please remember that school zones in Victoria operate at reduced speed limits (typically 40km/h during designated times), and these limits are strictly enforced to protect our children. We ask all families and visitors to drive with caution, be alert for pedestrians, and avoid distractions when travelling through the school precinct.
We also encourage safe parking practices, including avoiding double parking, respecting no-standing zones, and ensuring driveways and crossings are kept clear at all times. Where possible, please consider parking a short distance away and walking to reduce congestion directly outside the school.
Students are reminded to use designated crossings and to always look both ways before crossing roads, even when using supervised areas.
By working together, we can ensure our school environment remains safe and welcoming for everyone. Thank you for your ongoing cooperation and support.
