Principal’s Message

Read Time: ( words)

Dear families,

It’s been another exciting and productive few weeks at Riverwalk. From our forward planning for 2026 to community events, celebrations, and upcoming whole-school activities, there’s been a great deal happening across our school

Intentions for 2026
As we begin planning for next year, we ask families to please inform the office if your child will not be returning to Riverwalk in 2026. Early notification helps us plan staffing, class structures, and transitions to ensure the smoothest possible start to the new year.

Racism Policy
The Department of Education has released a new Preventing and Addressing Racism in Schools Policy.
This policy is now available on our school website. We encourage all families to take some time to read and familiarise themselves with it as part of our continued commitment to inclusion, respect, and safety.

Community Events and Celebrations
Fang Run – Good Friday Appeal
A big thank you to our community for your generosity during our Fang Run fundraiser. Together we raised $1,487 for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal. This is a wonderful achievement and reflects our community’s ongoing commitment to supporting others.
World Teachers’ Day
On Friday 24th November, we celebrated World Teachers’ Day. This provided a special opportunity to recognise the incredible work our teachers do each and every day.
Teaching is rewarding, but it also requires dedication, care, patience, and resilience. I want to thank all of our teachers for the passion and professionalism they bring to their work and for the positive impact they make in the lives of our students. We are truly grateful for their ongoing commitment to teaching, learning, and wellbeing at Riverwalk.
Remembrance Day
Our students created a beautiful display of poppies at the front of the school to honour those who have served. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this thoughtful and respectful acknowledgement.

Foundation Orientation – Little Learners
We are excited to welcome our newest Riverwalk students for their upcoming Foundation Orientation sessions on:
• Tuesday 18 November
• Wednesday 10 December
If you or someone you know has a child beginning Foundation in 2026 and has not yet enrolled, please contact the office as soon as possible. We look forward to meeting our new families and helping our youngest learners begin their journey at Riverwalk.

Upcoming Events
There are several key events approaching as we move into the final weeks of term:
• Whole School Assembly – Thursday 21 November
• Subjects Night – Wednesday 4 December, 4:00–5:30pm
We look forward to seeing our community come together to celebrate learning, creativity, and student achievement.

Early Pick Ups

If you need to pick your child up early from school, please let us know in advance by calling the office on 9742 9700 or sending us an email at riverwalk.ps@education.vic.gov.au

This helps us ensure your child is ready to leave when you arrive and minimises disruptions to learning.

To support a calm and focused learning environment, we will be avoiding PA announcements for early pick ups.

Please note:

Children cannot be called for early pick up during break times:

o 11:00am – 11:30am

o 1:30pm – 2:15pm

If you need to collect your child during these times, please contact the office ahead of time so they can be ready and waiting.

Parents who arrive during break times without letting us know in advance will need to wait until the break is over before their child can be collected, as we are unable to locate children out in the yard.

Translation Services

From 1 January 2025, All Graduates Interpreting and Translating (All Graduates) is the new provider for language services (interpreting and translation). This has replaced Language Loop.

Identify your Language List

Interpreting and translation services are available to parents and carers who have limited or no English language skills to communicate key information about their child’s education, such as for parent-teacher interviews, student support group (SSG) meetings or other one-to-one meetings.

We also offer interpreting and translation services for other school communications on our Newsletter, Compass and our website.

Many families at Riverwalk speak another language at home. For more information about how to support your child at home, please click here:
