We can’t believe we are at the end of term 2 and what a fun and busy few weeks of learning it has been in Foundation! Our students have continued to amaze us with their growing confidence and enthusiasm for learning. They have been building their knowledge of letter sounds and using their letter formation skills to write words independently.
Students have loved exploring Nursery Rhymes such as Jack and Jill, The Incy Wincy Spider and many more through a range of literacy and creative activities. In Mathematics, we have been strengthening our number knowledge through counting forwards and backwards, subitising and ordinal numbers through hands-on learning experiences. We have been connecting the days of the week to events that occur in our daily lives. We have also been sharing places that are special to us in investigations. This term in wellbeing, we have been exploring kindness and how we can be kind to ourselves and the people around us.
Learning at home could look like:
Reading together each night — an adult reading first and then encouraging your child to repeat or join in, while talking about the pictures and story.
Counting groups of objects at home and talking about what day it is, what was yesterday & tomorrow.
Encouraging children to talk about places that are special to them, their religion and families.
We are so proud of our students and all of their wonderful achievements this term!

We can hardly believe that we have reached the end of Term 2! This marks the halfway point of Year 1, and what an incredible journey it has been so far.
All Learning Group teachers have been extremely impressed with the growth and progress students have shown this semester. It has been wonderful to see their confidence, independence, and enthusiasm for learning continue to develop. We are excited to see what the second half of the year has in store for our Year 1 learners.
In English this term, we introduced a new phonics program. Students are becoming experts at reading and writing words using their “voice on” strategy to help decode unfamiliar words. When reading at home, you may like to encourage your child to use their voice to sound out and read unknown words independently.
Our students are also blossoming into capable authors. They are working hard to include descriptive adjectives in their writing and are consistently applying important writing conventions such as capital letters, full stops, and finger spaces. We are so proud of the effort they are putting into their writing tasks.
Thank you for your continued support with home reading. Regular reading at home plays a vital role in developing students’ literacy skills and confidence. Please continue to read with your child each day and complete their reading log. Teachers will continue to reward students with Dojo points for their commitment to home reading.
We wish all families a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable holiday break and look forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting term of learning in Term 3.

As we approach the end of Term 2, it is hard to believe that there is only one week remaining before the school holidays! It has been a busy and productive term, and we are so proud of the effort and growth our Grade 5 students have demonstrated across all learning areas.
GMHBA stadium, home to the Geelong Football Club was also the location of an exciting STEM learning experience at the start of the month for a lucky group of our students! Participants were involved in a range of dynamic scientific experiments and activities, using problem solving, statistical analysis and observation skills to explore the science and mathematics behind football. We are so proud of our students for beautifully representing Riverwalk Primary School and our commitment to excellence!
Over the past two weeks, our Stand Up Project (SUP) leaders have been teaching our year 2 and 3 students about bullying and how to be positive upstanders. We are incredibly proud of how dedicated they’ve been in this role and the amazing guidance they’ve provided to their younger peers. Well done SUP leaders!
This week, a group of students had the exciting opportunity to participate in a creative writing workshop. They worked alongside other young writers, developing their skills and exploring ways to make their writing more engaging and effective. Students returned with new ideas and strategies that they are eager to apply in the classroom.
As we move into colder months, we would like to remind families that students are expected to wear the approved Riverwalk Primary School uniform, including school jumpers, jackets and hats, to help promote a sense of belonging and pride in our school community. Casual caps are not part of the school uniform and students will be asked to place them in their bags; repeated occurrences may result in the cap being temporarily confiscated and returned at a later time. Students may wear either the academic or sports uniform as their daily option. Families requiring support accessing uniform items, including uniform vouchers, are encouraged to contact the school office confidentially.
Semester 1 reports will soon be available for parents and carers to access. Reports provide an overview of your child’s progress and achievements throughout the first half of the year. We encourage families to take the time to celebrate successes and discuss goals for continued growth during Semester 2.
As we head into the final week of term, we thank our students for their ongoing commitment to learning and our families for their continued support. We look forward to finishing the term strongly and wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday break!

Curriculum Day On Friday 12th June, staff participated in our latest Curriculum Day. These days are an important part of our improvement work, providing teachers with dedicated time to plan, assess, reflect on student learning and strengthen their own professional practice. This work continues to build consistency and quality across our classrooms. At the same time, our Education Support staff work alongside the Principal Team in a professional learning session designed to build their understanding of the teaching and learning work taking place across the school. Delivering PL to our ES staff helps strengthen the consistency in how we support student learning across all classrooms.
Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS)
Over the past few weeks, students in Years 4–6 have completed the Attitudes to School Survey. This survey provides valuable feedback about students’ sense of belonging, wellbeing and learning experiences at school, and helps us shape our future improvement priorities.
Winter Gala Sport
A huge congratulations to all Year 6 students who represented Riverwalk at the Winter Gala. Congratulations to our A Teams in Hockey, Teeball and Girls Basketball, who won their Werribee District competitions and will now progress to Division Finals. We wish them all the best in the next stage.
End of term reminders As we head towards the end of term, a few reminders help our days run smoothly. Arriving at school on time and organised for the day ahead sets students up for success and minimises disruptions to learning. School gates open at 8:30am and are locked at 3:30pm each day. If your child arrives late or leaves early, please sign them in or out through the office.
Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are staff meeting nights, so we appreciate families collecting students promptly. When using the Kiss and Go zone, please keep traffic moving, avoid leaving your vehicle unattended, and always use designated crossings to support safety around the school.
With colder weather now here, please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for winter. Students spend time outdoors during recess and lunch each day (weather permitting), so extra layers may be needed. We ask students to remove outerwear such as beanies and jackets inside classrooms and encourage all families to clearly label clothing. If your child is missing any items, please check our lost property box which is next our admin building.
Parent payments can be made online via Compass through course confirmations, or in person at the school office/reception. If you have any questions or need support with payment arrangements, please contact the office and we’ll be happy to help.
Uniform
School hats are now available for purchase at the school office for $20, and reading satchels are available for $17. All other uniform items can be purchased from Noone Rushfords in Werribee.
Student Late Arrivals
Students who arrive at school after 9:00am must present at administration before going to their Learning Group. This ensures that their attendance is marked accordingly and they receive a Welcome Pass to provide to their learning group Teacher when they arrive at class.
Early Pick Ups
If you need to pick your child up early from school, please let us know in advance by calling the office on 9742 9700 or sending us an email at riverwalk.ps@education.vic.gov.au
This helps us ensure your child is ready to leave when you arrive and minimises disruptions to learning.
To support a calm and focused learning environment, we will be avoiding PA announcements for early pick ups.
Please note:
Children cannot be called for early pick up during break times:
o 11:00am – 11:30am
o 1:30pm – 2:15pm
If you need to collect your child during these times, please contact the office ahead of time so they can be ready and waiting.
Parents who arrive during break times without letting us know in advance will need to wait until the break is over before their child can be collected, as we are unable to locate children out in the yard.
Student Absences
In order to meet legislative requirements, we must ensure that our attendance data, which is provided daily to the Department of Education and Training, is up-to-date and accurate. We ask all families for the same day notification of student absences via compass. Instructions on how to report your child as absent on compass have been attached to this post. If unsure or unable to submit via Compass please email riverwalkps@education.vic.gov.au or call 9742 9700.
All unexplained absences will automatically receive an SMS notification at 9.45am
daily reminding you to report your child’s absence.
Unexplained Student Absences
All student absences must be logged in Compass. If your child does have absences that are unexplained, they can be seen on your Compass Parent Portal. If you are unsure how to process these on your parent portal, please reach out to administration for assistance.
Road Safety Reminder
As we continue to prioritise the safety of our students and families, we would like to remind everyone to remain mindful of traffic and road safety around the school, particularly during drop-off and pick-up times.
Please remember that school zones in Victoria operate at reduced speed limits (typically 40km/h during designated times), and these limits are strictly enforced to protect our children. We ask all families and visitors to drive with caution, be alert for pedestrians, and avoid distractions when travelling through the school precinct.
We also encourage safe parking practices, including avoiding double parking, respecting no-standing zones, and ensuring driveways and crossings are kept clear at all times. Where possible, please consider parking a short distance away and walking to reduce congestion directly outside the school.
Students are reminded to use designated crossings and to always look both ways before crossing roads, even when using supervised areas.
By working together, we can ensure our school environment remains safe and welcoming for everyone. Thank you for your ongoing cooperation and support.

• Medication is in date and in original packaging with a pharmacy label (where applicable)
If your child’s documentation or medication is out of date or incomplete, you will receive a phone call this week as a reminder to update and return all required requirements by Wednesday 17th June.
