Term 3 is nearly over! How quickly the term has gone by! It’s hard to believe we are already approaching the end of Term 3. Thank you for your continued support throughout the term. It has been wonderful to see the students’ growth, confidence and enthusiasm for learning. We were so excited to share this learning and growth with you at student lead conferences!
Over the past few weeks, we have been exploring a beautifully illustrated book called Tom Tom by Rosemary Sullivan and Dee Huxley. Our focus while reading Tom Tom has been on developing students’ ability to create simple sentences, recount stories that have been read to them, and make meaningful text-to-self connections by relating the story to their own experiences.
In Mathematics, we have been focusing on natural numbers from 1–20 and exploring different strategies for adding numbers together. Students have also been consolidating their learning from Terms 1 and 2, including concepts such as measurement and creating and continuing patterns.
Week 10 is our final week of Term 3. On Friday, we will be celebrating Footy Colours Day. Students are invited to come dressed in the colours of their favourite AFL team and show their team spirit!
Please also remember that students will be dismissed from school at 1:30pm on Friday.

Over the past three weeks, our students have been working incredibly hard on renaming 3-digit numbers. This is a challenging concept, and it has been wonderful to see how much progress they have made. The students have been incredibly proud of their learning and have enjoyed seeing themselves improve!
It was also incredible to see how confidently the students shared their learning across different subject areas during our Student-Led Conferences. They did a fantastic job explaining their learning and celebrating their achievements.
Our Book Parade was a huge success! We had so much fun dressing up in our costumes and celebrating our love of books. We spent lots of the day reading, creating and even designing our very own books. It was wonderful to see the students’ creativity and enthusiasm shine throughout the day.
It is incredible to think that we are already nearing the end of Term 3! We would like to wish all of our families a restful and enjoyable school holiday break. We hope everyone has a chance to relax, recharge and enjoy some special time together. We look forward to seeing everyone back for another exciting term!

As we draw closer to the end of Term 3, it is a great opportunity to reflect on what a successful and productive term it has been. The students have continued to grow in their learning, develop their confidence and demonstrate resilience and enthusiasm in the classroom. They should all be very proud of the progress they have made throughout the term.
A quick uniform reminder: students are expected to wear the approved Riverwalk Primary School uniform, including school jumpers, jackets and next term they will be required to wear their hats. Wearing the uniform correctly helps foster a strong sense of belonging and pride within our school community. Students may choose either the academic or sports uniform as their daily option.

Term 3 has been filled with creativity, collaboration and celebrations!
Our Year 5 students have been working hard, bringing their persuasive writing unit on Rumplestiltskin to a close. They’ve been crafting complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions, while also exploring the various perspectives of early settlement Australia—including what life was like for miners during the Gold Rush era. In Mathematics, they’ve added an extra layer of creativity by designing 2D nets for product packaging and crafting their own Battleship game boards, applying their knowledge of the Cartesian Plane and grid coordinates.
The Book Parade was a standout event this term! The costumes were fantastic, and everyone had a blast sharing their favourite books and characters while celebrating the joy of reading. Thank you to everyone who got involved and attended—it was a wonderful showcase of our school’s love for literature!
For RUOK Day, students practiced thoughtful ways to check in on their friends as part of our Wellbeing practices, reinforcing the importance of kindness and connection at Riverwalk Primary.
A huge thank you to all the families and carers who joined us for Student-Led Conferences. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to celebrate their progress and reflect on their learning journey this year.

What a term it has been! Our Year 6’s now officially have just one term and one week left until they head off to high school, a milestone that’s hard to believe has crept up on us so quickly.
Our students have been hard at work refining and publishing their analytical essays on The One and Only Ivan. Throughout this unit, they have shown a genuine depth of understanding of the author’s message and themes, engaging thoughtfully with the text and producing some truly impressive pieces of writing. They are now looking forward to watching the film adaptation, which will give them the opportunity to compare and contrast the ways a story can be told differently across text and film.
It was wonderful to see all of the Year 6 students’ fantastic Book Week costumes on display. Even as the seniors of our school, they showed they aren’t afraid to embrace their creativity and personalities, setting a great example for our younger students and encouraging a love of reading across the school. We are incredibly proud of the maturity and enthusiasm they showed on the day.
Thank you to all the parents and guardians who came along to our Student Led Conferences on Monday. It was wonderful to see so many families take the time to celebrate their child’s learning journey, and we know the students were proud to share their achievements and reflect on their growth with you by their side. Your support and involvement make such a difference.

Foundation: Foundation students have started to explore using puppets safely. They have enjoyed interpreting stories into their own puppet shows.
At home: Practise their skills with their soft toys/puppets.
Year 1: Year 1’s have been learning about how to set the scene in drama. We have explored lots of different settings and learnt to improvise a scene.
At home: They can practise their acting skills in front of a mirror and work on facial expressions and body language.
Year 2: Year 2’s have been revising their knowledge of musical elements we have learnt so far. We are consolidating our knowledge of pitch, tempo, dynamics and timbre.
At home: Teach someone at home how to play Tempo tag, or the Presto Largo freeze!
Year 3: Year 3’s have now learnt C, G, Am and F on the Ukulele. We are learning to play some popular songs and starting to perform them with our peers in class.
At home: Practise the air ukulele! Or the real one if you are lucky enough to own one.
Year 4: Year 4’s are completing their Post test on music notation this week and are revising all the new concepts we have learnt this term. Good luck to them all and well done to those who have already completed theirs!

Year 5: Year 5’s are wrapping up their Digital Technology unit and will be sharing their final pieces next week. They have all created a piece on Garageband and have been practising using the app Spire to record their voices and musical instruments.

Year 6: Year 6’s have been exploring the Rhythm section and the different instruments that play this role in a band setting. They have explored drums, bass guitar, rhythm guitar and keyboard with rotation activities.

Foundation- Year 2
Students have followed on from their gymnastics unit linking their skills to skipping and jumping. Students have been exploring and practicing various types of skipping and elastics, with the year 2 students learning the teddy bear skipping rhyme.

Year 3: Students have been introduced to Target games. They are learning about these games through the game of golf. Students are learning to swing smoothly and adjust their strike.

Foundation: Students have looked at how things move in the real world, this includes how our toys move.
At home: Ask your child to demonstrate the movements roll, slide, bounce, throw and kick.
Year 1: Students were able to test their instruments and explain how they worked, we also looked at how we can block out sound.
At home: As an activity, explore different ways to make vibrations and the sounds they can make.
Year 2: Students have shown great confidence in their ability to demonstrate push and pull, their models were well built and students were able to show that they could move thor creations with a push or pull.
At home: Ask your child about games from other cultures.
Year 3: Students have been looking at how indigenous people were able to keep warm in the colder regions, we looked at different materials that clothing was made from.
At home: Ask your child to identify manmade objects that produce heat in your home.
Year 4: Students are now exploring the force of buoyancy, they have been tasked with creating something that will float out of recycled materials and are working through the design process.
At home: With your child, get a balloon and charge it with electrostatic energy. How many objects can you attract in the home?
Year 5: Students have been exploring how light travels. They have taken great enjoyment with bouncing lasers and lights off mirrors and glass and then creating diagrams about their findings.
At home: Ask your child what happens when you reflect light off a mirror.
Year 6: Students are now confident using a range of different tools to create a working electric circuit. Their report writing skills have improved over the term and students have an understanding of what a practical report will look like in high school.
At home: Ask your child what a conductor and an insulator is.
It is hard to believe we are already in Week 9 and quickly approaching the end of Term 3. The past few weeks have been particularly busy at Riverwalk, with plenty of opportunities for our students, staff and families to come together and celebrate our school community.
Book Week
Book Week was once again a fantastic celebration across the school. Our annual Book Parade was a highlight, with some brilliant costumes on display from both students and staff. Thank you to our families for getting behind the parade and helping make it such an enjoyable event for our students.
Father’s Day BBQ
We had a fantastic turnout for our Father’s Day BBQ, and it was great to welcome so many dads, grandfathers and other important father figures into the school.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped create such a positive morning. Events like these are a great reminder of the strong community we have here at Riverwalk.
R U OK? Day
This week we also recognised R U OK? Day, providing an important opportunity to talk with our students about looking out for one another and checking in when someone might not seem themselves.
While these conversations are important every day, R U OK? Day is a timely reminder that simply asking someone, “Are you OK?”, and taking the time to listen can make a difference.
Parent/Carer Opinion Survey – We’d Love Your Feedback
A reminder that our annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is still open.
Your feedback is extremely valuable and helps us understand what we are doing well and where we can continue to improve as a school.
The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and can be accessed through the link previously shared on Compass.
The survey closes Friday 18 September 2026.

Looking Towards the End of Term
With only a short time remaining in Term 3, I would like to thank our students, staff and families for their continued support throughout what has been another busy and productive term. A reminder that we finish at 1:30pm on the last day of term. Students are encouraged to wear their footy colours on this day.
Parent payments can be made online via Compass through course confirmations, or in person at the school office/reception. If you have any questions or need support with payment arrangements, please contact the office and we’ll be happy to help.
Uniform
School hats are now available for purchase at the school office for $20, and reading satchels are available for $17. All other uniform items can be purchased from Noone Rushfords in Werribee.
Student Late Arrivals
Students who arrive at school after 9:00am must present at administration before going to their Learning Group. This ensures that their attendance is marked accordingly and they receive a Welcome Pass to provide to their learning group Teacher when they arrive at class.
Early Pick Ups
If you need to pick your child up early from school, please let us know in advance by calling the office on 9742 9700 or sending us an email at riverwalk.ps@education.vic.gov.au
This helps us ensure your child is ready to leave when you arrive and minimises disruptions to learning.
To support a calm and focused learning environment, we will be avoiding PA announcements for early pick ups.
Please note:
Children cannot be called for early pick up during break times:
o 11:00am – 11:30am
o 1:30pm – 2:15pm
If you need to collect your child during these times, please contact the office ahead of time so they can be ready and waiting.
Parents who arrive during break times without letting us know in advance will need to wait until the break is over before their child can be collected, as we are unable to locate children out in the yard.
Student Absences
In order to meet legislative requirements, we must ensure that our attendance data, which is provided daily to the Department of Education and Training, is up-to-date and accurate. We ask all families for the same day notification of student absences via compass. Instructions on how to report your child as absent on compass have been attached to this post. If unsure or unable to submit via Compass please email riverwalkps@education.vic.gov.au or call 9742 9700.
All unexplained absences will automatically receive an SMS notification at 9.45am
daily reminding you to report your child’s absence.
Unexplained Student Absences
All student absences must be logged in Compass. If your child does have absences that are unexplained, they can be seen on your Compass Parent Portal. If you are unsure how to process these on your parent portal, please reach out to administration for assistance.
Road Safety Reminder
As we continue to prioritise the safety of our students and families, we would like to remind everyone to remain mindful of traffic and road safety around the school, particularly during drop-off and pick-up times.
Please remember that school zones in Victoria operate at reduced speed limits (typically 40km/h during designated times), and these limits are strictly enforced to protect our children. We ask all families and visitors to drive with caution, be alert for pedestrians, and avoid distractions when travelling through the school precinct.
We also encourage safe parking practices, including avoiding double parking, respecting no-standing zones, and ensuring driveways and crossings are kept clear at all times. Where possible, please consider parking a short distance away and walking to reduce congestion directly outside the school.
Students are reminded to use designated crossings and to always look both ways before crossing roads, even when using supervised areas.
