At Riverwalk Primary School we endeavour to promote student voice and agency within the learning environment. This is achieved through our School Captains, Student Representative Council, House Captains and Peer Mediators.
Our School Captains are Year 6 students who represent the beliefs and values of Riverwalk Primary School and promote our school’s vision and values for their peers and wider school community. They are given leadership roles within the school including but not limited to weekly announcements, greeting important visitors, mentoring junior students and lead school assemblies.
The role of our Student Representative Council, is to be the voice of the student cohort, to find out what students think, believe and feel and to help make our school a better place by having a voice with decision making within the school.
These students will work closely with our School Captains to be positive role models and lead our student voice program.
Our House Captains are responsible for representing their House within our school community. They are involved in organising house events, motivating fellow house members, promoting house spirit and fostering camaraderie and encouragement in inter-house competitions and activities such as Swimming and Athletics Carnivals. Our Houses are: Mirri, Karndoor, Yaluk, Garra.
Our Peer Mediators our Year 5 students who complete training at the commencement of the school year to assist with minor issues in the yard at recess and lunchtime. They provide peer support to help navigate through friendship issues, conflict resolution, assisting with strategies that improve student experience in the yard. They are accessible to our junior students in Foundation – Year 2 and our visible by wearing a blue coloured vest.
