At Riverwalk Primary School, our English curriculum is grounded in the Science of Reading, an evidence based approach to how students learn to read, write and spell successfully.
Across Prep to Year 6, students engage in rich literacy learning through Jocelyn Seamer Text-Based Units, using high-quality mentor texts to develop reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing and oral language.
In Prep to Year 2, students participate in daily systematic synthetic phonics instruction through Phonics Plus to build strong foundational reading skills, including phonemic awareness, decoding and fluency.
In Years 3–6, spelling instruction is supported through Spelling Success in Action by Jocelyn Seamer, helping students develop a deeper understanding of morphology, etymology and spelling patterns.
Our English approach ensures students receive structured, evidence-informed instruction to support them in becoming confident and capable readers, writers and communicators.
