Performing Arts

Foundation: Have been starting to learn a new dance, the ‘Rabbit Polka’ in their Performing Arts unit.

At home: They can keep working on their skipping, hopping and galloping.

Year 1: Year 1’s have been coming up with ‘Class chants’ by looking at rhyming patterns and drawing inspiration from Sports anthems.

At home: They can practice their chants at home and come up with moves.

Year 2: Students have been learning about different styles of dance. This week they have been focusing on African dance and specific skills.

At home: They can practice their dance moves at home.

Year 3: Students have been creating their own ‘Youtube shorts’ dance routines and performing to the class.

At home: They can practise their routines and perfect them.

Year 4: Have been rehearsing and rehearsing ready for their Year 4 flashmob dance. They have all choreographed their own section for their class and will be performing very soon…

At home: They can go over their routines to ensure they are ready and feeling confident.

Year 5: Have been performing their dances that they have choreographed in groups. 

At home: Have a rest, be proud of your hard work.

Year 6: Year 6’s have been rehearsing their group dance routines and this week they have been performing their final product to the class. They have all tried really hard!

At home: They can relax and be proud of the work they put in.

Visual Arts  

Throughout the term, each year level has explored a range of artistic concepts and skills. It has been wonderful to see students enthusiastically engaging in the creative process, developing their artistic abilities, and taking pride in their finished artworks.

Next term, most students will begin exploring Media Arts, with an introduction to media, photography and videography. Students will have the opportunity to learn how images and videos can be used to communicate ideas, tell stories, and express creativity.

We wish all students and their families a safe, restful, and enjoyable holiday break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back next term.

Foundation: Students have continued to create artworks including a seahorse and flower using collage as well as other learnt techniques such as tearing and scrunching.

At home: Tear and scrunch coloured paper at home to create little paper balls which can be used to fill an empty space in a drawing. 

Year 1: Students looked at the works of Henri Rousseau and used his work as inspiration to create an artwork of a tiger in its jungle habitat. 

At home: Continue to explore Henri Rousseau’s jungle artworks and create a drawing of a jungle.

Year 2: Students have recycled their print art to create a collage of an animal, creature or object. 

At home: Cut up an old artwork to create a new artwork using collage. 

Year 3:  Students have acquired the skill of weaving and successfully woven paper strips, using an under and over technique so it resembles a checkerboard pattern.

At home:  They can use scraps of paper and cardboard to do paper weaving at home.

Year 4: Students have thoroughly enjoyed their sculpture unit and created clay cupcakes that they painted and decorated with glitter.

At home: Getting plasticine to make other food items such as a hamburger, a pizza, cake.

Year 5:  Students have delved into their imagination by making a fantasy landscape, combining elements of things that are real and not real.  Landscapes have been created using oil pastels and watercolour paints.

At home: Students can create a fantasy seascape.

Year 6: Students have explored the concept of Pop art which represents popular art.  They have painted a canvas using acrylic paint to show their understanding of the topic.

At home: Taking popular items at home such as a Soup can, or a soft drink can and illustrating it.

Physical Education

Foundation: Students have been learning about basketball dribbling and how to bounce the ball. To finish off the term, they will keep practising this skill in a variety of different games.

At home: Ask your child what they have learnt in PE and see if you can spend some time outside and practise this at home.

Year 1 and 2: Students are finishing their learning about basketball dribbling and are going to finish off the term by playing some games that involve their kicking skills.

At home: Ask your child what they have learnt in PE and see if you can spend some time outside and practise this at home.

Year 3: Students have finished learning about netball and are going to finish off the term with basketball. They will practise passing and dribbling and then see if they can apply these skills in games.

Year 4: Students have finished learning about basketball and are going to finish off the term with soccer and hockey. They will practise different skills used in these sports and then see if they can apply these in games.

Year 5: Students have finished learning about soccer and hockey and are going to finish off the term with touch rugby. They will practise skills and strategies used in this sport and then see if they can apply these in games.

Year 6: Students will be continuing with their chosen sport of European Handball and are participating in a mini competition against other teams within their class. They have been encouraged to not only demonstrate their skills and strategies, but to show good sportsmanship with team members and others.

S.T.E.M

Well done to all students on an amazing Term 2, this is the end of our Earth Science unit.  Our Term 3 focus will be physical science, the at home suggestions will help to preload your child for our next unit of work.

Foundation: We explored the importance of seasons to indigenous people and have looked at why we are thankful for certain weather.  We are also exploring what animals do in different seasons.

At home: Ask your child how different things move – their toys, animals and people.

Year 1: We are exploring how we can use recycled materials to create, we have drawn our labelled diagrams and will be creating our ideas over the coming weeks.

At home: Ask your child about the different sounds they can hear and how they think they are created.

Year 2: We have been researching information about the different planets and are now creating our own model of the solar system.

At home: Explore the forces push and pull.

Year 3: We have been learning how indigenous people used different rocks and minerals in everyday life.

At home: Discuss where heat comes from, this can be both natural and artificial sources.  We will also be learning how to use and read a thermometer.

Year 4: We have introduced the terms weather and climate.  Students have been writing definitions, finding examples and learning how to search for the weather in different locations.

At home: Talk about different forces, we will be exploring contact and non contact forces.

Year 5: We have created models and videos to show the different ways in which Earth moves.

At home: Explore different sources of light and how shadows are created.

Year 6: We are looking at a range of natural disasters such as drought, earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanoes.

At home: Discuss the dangers of electricity and explore the way in which electricity has progressed over time.
