Dear Parents/Carers,

We can hardly believe that we have reached the end of Term 2! This marks the halfway point of Year 1, and what an incredible journey it has been so far.

All Learning Group teachers have been extremely impressed with the growth and progress students have shown this semester. It has been wonderful to see their confidence, independence, and enthusiasm for learning continue to develop. We are excited to see what the second half of the year has in store for our Year 1 learners.

In English this term, we introduced a new phonics program. Students are becoming experts at reading and writing words using their “voice on” strategy to help decode unfamiliar words. When reading at home, you may like to encourage your child to use their voice to sound out and read unknown words independently.

Our students are also blossoming into capable authors. They are working hard to include descriptive adjectives in their writing and are consistently applying important writing conventions such as capital letters, full stops, and finger spaces. We are so proud of the effort they are putting into their writing tasks.

Thank you for your continued support with home reading. Regular reading at home plays a vital role in developing students’ literacy skills and confidence. Please continue to read with your child each day and complete their reading log. Teachers will continue to reward students with Dojo points for their commitment to home reading.

We wish all families a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable holiday break and look forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting term of learning in Term 3.
